CIRCUMCISION METHOD
Male circumcision is a procedure which is performed globally. It is an ancient practice with religious and cultural values due to its medical benefits. The procedure is reasonably safe if performed by experienced surgeons.
Circumcision is defined simply as the surgical removal of a fold of skin (the `foreskin’ or `prepuce’) that covers the head (glans) of the un-erect penis.
The procedure is pain free because it is carried out under local anaesthesia.
SLEEVE RESECTION METHOD
It is an old and traditional method of circumcision. This technique is appropriate for all ages (infants, young boys and adults), though it is more suitable for young boys and adults. It takes around 60 minutes (for adults) to perform the procedure.
Adequacy of the pain relief is confirmed prior to commencing the procedure. Outline of the glans penis is marked. Preputial adhesions are divided and prepuce is mobilised. Skin and inner prepuce resected with the help of scalpel and scissors keeping the glans under direct vision. Haemostasis secured with bipolar diathermy. Wound repaired with dissolvable sutures. Light dressing applied around the wound.
The risks of the procedure are: bleeding, infection, and residual excess skin remaining.
CIRCUMCISION POSTOPERATIVE CARE
Circumcision is a minor surgical procedure that requires little postoperative in the first few days to prevent any problems.
Bleeding is a rare complication – Significant bleeding may require a review in a small number of cases.
We would also wish to observe the patient for half an hour after the circumcision to ensure that the procedure has been successful without any acute complications like bleeding.
The dissolvable stitches will fall off within two to three weeks. Please continue give him pain control medication for next few days.
A detailed written advice sheet will be provided after the procedure.

FRENULOPLASTY
The technique involves surgical removal of a short penile frenulum by dividing the skin across and re-stitching it in a lengthwise fashion.
The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia. It takes 20 – 30 minutes to perform.
Details of the procedure
The frenulum is divided across and re-stitched in a lengthwise fashion, which results in lengthening the frenulum.
Bipolar diathermy (Electro cautery) is used to control bleeding.
Absorbable sutures are applied which usually disappear within two to three weeks.
At the end of the procedure the wound is wrapped in a loose bandage.
The local anaesthesia wears off in few hours. You will be instructed to take pain control medications for few days.
The rare risks of the procedure are: bleeding and infection.
A detailed written advice sheet will be provided after the procedure.

Dorsal Slit
The procedure involves incising the tip of the foreskin to release tightness which is preventing retraction of foreskin.
The technique is used when patient is not willing to do circumcision in case of phimosis.
It is most often used instead of circumcision in an emergency situation where the foreskin is stuck in a retracted position and has become very swollen (paraphimosis)
Details of the procedure
The procedure is carried out under local anaesthesia
An incision is made on the foreskin along its length, on the top of the penis. The edges of the split are stitched using absorbable sutures. Stitches disappear usually within two to three weeks.
Bipolar diathermy (Electro cautery) is used to control bleeding.
The rare risks of the procedure are: bleeding and infection.
A detailed written advice sheet will be provided after the procedure.
